Interesting point wrt religion and 'values' too, because society is constantly evolving and established values and beliefs are rendered irrelevant and discarded all the time as new understandings emerge.
I suppose all values are ultimately vulnerable to politicisation or radicalisation.

You make a very good point with regard to British values and history too, and I've often wondered about the optics of continuing to place Marx and Lenin as figureheads of socialism in the UK when so many of the precursor movements (Levellers, Diggers, Chartists, etc) were entirely homegrown.
The biggest problem with nationalism on the left currently....
