@marmanold I can post all my thoughts, but in short America needs the Gospel and rekindling of churches that look like the church in Acts. Sorry big churches, but driving 25 mins or more to a private campus where my family is split up by age or gender or material status and taught from packaged lessons (some which are very good for personal growth) does not have the same impact on my immediate neighborhood and community. In other words, the remote campus doesn't a stake in my community. They might as well be a gated community. Sorry small churches that have also followed that model to look like the big churches. Hats off to church plants doing whole family studies in homes, gyms, schools, ymca, and bars (yep, one I know, they've moved a couple times and might be close to a long term home now). Hats off to the small churches still engaged in their community and the big churches starting small neighborhood satellites. That's the best we've got. Again, be glad to share more, if you'd like.

While I was researching, the types of church councils seemed to parallel small town government. You could have a strong mayor and seperate minor council to handle administrative tasks, a mayor who leads the council and has a tie breaking vote, a mayor on the council with a vote equal to others on council, or a strong council and a business manager for administrative tasks. The best practices for each are different. As far as Scripture, the lack of specifics to church government makes me wonder if we've over engineered the whole thing. There are verses to meet together regularly, teach each other, respect elders, sing pslams, pray as a body, and select deacons or overseers. There are many verses on how to treat each other. However, I don't know any on how to run a good meeting, set up a committee, write grants, compile annual reports, or draft policy.

Some where like secret closets, with the push on the correct place the wall would switch out with a decorated wall. The largest ongoing cost is the building/grounds in my home church (parking lot resurfacing, roofing, heat pumps replacement). 1. Downsize if possible (sell the building, meet in a school, homes, or YMCA). 2. Combine with another small church, sell one building, etc. 3. Become a branch campus of a larger church. 4. Try to hang on as long as possible, but end up closing due to lack of interest/funds. I don't have to go far to see examples of option 4. What worries me is most will not consider other options until forced. That's not healthy. On a business trip, I attended a fantastic church that was a merger. They said there were rough spots, but it all worked out.

The ones that weren't places at all seem to have more results than those I'm just updating a picture. A radical thought came to mind during these visits. What if a large church with multiple teams covering an area (grounds, tech, musicians, etc.) would send members to help the small churches on a temporary or even permanent basis? If there are too many A/V techs to utilize them in one place, then send them out to be utilized.

My parents changed churches a lot while I was growing up, many different Protestant denominations with generally contemporary worship, usually described as sets, with electric guitar, etc. I continued that and added a Messenic Congregation for a couple of years. There's certainly a sacredness to the missal that I've not expected, the closest was the Messenic body. Next, this Baptist is going to have to sneak into a mass.
