@pyrmont Thanks for the questions. It depends on which claims we’re talking about. Staking out claims in disputed areas of the South China Sea is not something the U.S. should be prepared to fight over. China will have considerable influence given its size and wealth, and the U.S. isn’t in a position to prevent that even if we wanted to. That becomes a danger for the U.S. and our allies only if China seeks to attack its neighbors, and that can be discouraged through improved defenses for allies and partners. We have treaty commitments that oblige us to come to the defense of Japan, South Korea, and the Philippines, but we shouldn’t overreach beyond that. My impression is that regional allies would greatly prefer a less contentious U.S.-Chinese relationship, so we should take care not to pursue a rivalry that they won’t support.

@pyrmont Marvel's stuff usually is pretty formulaic. I have enjoyed some of them, but I find a lot of them to be so-so and interchangeable. I admit I'm biased, and I don't have as much of an interest in the characters as I do with DC. What I liked about most DC films is that they have generally allowed the directors to tell the stories they want. The late, unlamented Justice League is the obvious exception to that. Sometimes that doesn't work with a general audience, sometimes it does, but it can also produce films that hold up after decades. When Batman Returns came out, a lot of people ridiculed it in the same terms that critics have used against MoS and BvS, but now it is widely regarded as one of the best in the genre. Tastes differ, and tastes change, so some of the films that are mocked today may end up being reconsidered in another 15-20 years. Thanks for the reply

@fiona I was impressed by the main character's use of imagination to cast herself and her friends in different roles throughout the movie. It is certainly violent, but it's also visually very striking. All in all, I'd say it is worth watching if you enjoy fantasy/action movies
