@ReaderJohn As someone who lives in Southeast Asia, and has lived in both China and the Middle East, this seems like more of a projection from the States than a reality. Itā€™s also that ā€˜Global Southā€™ doesnā€™t include much of the Global South, but Russia, Iran, China, etc. Odd.

@manton I still think thereā€™s something to the form that causes the vitriol. It was/is definitely true of X and why I havenā€™t been on in a decade or more. But itā€™s also true on Bluesky and Mastodon. There are some dark and viscous corners there as well.

I read it as a philosophy book and had no expectation of the theological movements near the end. This was especially clear in his discussions of RenƩ Girard. This was a very interesting book.

@manton Itā€™s becoming more challenging to detect AI-written assignments that my students submit. Often, they are aware enough to add manual instructions to avoid most of the online AI-checkers. I would welcome a watermark if it could be implemented well. Iā€™m glad at least that theyā€™re trying.

@mwerickson Do you what has changed from the first to second editions? I used to have students read the first edition or Kenton Sparks, Godā€™s Word in Human Words to show a broader Protestant understanding of inspiration that tried to accommodate historical critical conclusions.

@manton Iā€™m in Plano for the summer. There are lots of centre-right and centre-left folks here. I donā€™t hear much love for either candidate. But the centre-left still plans to vote. But those I know in the centre-right canā€™t hold their nose and vote Paxton. Heā€™s too corrupt.

The first sections were tedious to read as Leithart parsed out nuances in historic statements of divine simplicity. The second half was enjoyable. It was speculative, creative, erudite, and insightful.
