@slngshot-dvnngrod.bsky.social Yeah, I do have some longing looks towards Linux. I wrote a blog post called Locked-In-O-Meter: iPhone Edition earlier, and I plan to do a Mac version as well! But my three main reasons for why itā€™s hard to move off the Mac are:

  1. Iā€™d take a larger hit on the hardware compared to moving phone platforms. (Even though Frameworks are cool.)
    2. \n
  2. Thereā€™s a bunch of software I need, like Logic Pro and Affinity (the latter could perhaps be emulated from Windows?).

  3. Thereā€™s a lot of third-party software Iā€™d really miss. Like Bike, Ulysses, Raycast, Paste, Cleanshot, BetterTouchTool, etc. Even after Tahoe, I love using my Mac ā€” because of apps like that.

Also, with the Mac I can, to a larger extent (compared to the iPhone ā€” not Linux), fix the things I donā€™t like.

@jarrod @birming Yeah, I had a simliar thought. (I went more into it here, earlier today. I also compared tot he Pixel, Robert! =) )

And my main point is that I think they couldā€™ve made them look much better while not compromising the functionality. It just looks like they didnā€™t bother.

(The main thing Iā€™d like, is to widen the plateaus, and just integrate them into the frame. The closest I could find to that, is the Pixel 8.)

Edit: This thing here builds on my pointā€¦ Apple has added a white block to the clear cases, to hide the fact that the MagSafe magnets doesnā€™t align with the Apple logo anymore.

@jsonbecker In my experience the results are better than Google, mostly due to the ability to rank sites up or down. (And I guess Iā€™d call not having ads ā€œbetterā€ as well.) However, Iā€™d be happy to pay for the same search quality as Google, but no ads and ā€œnot Googleā€.

Iā€™ve tried to use Squash (their batch image editor) to prep images for my blog ā€“Ā but the Shortcut actions are bugged, so it doesnā€™t workā€¦ :( (It always adds watermarks, even if the app is licensed.) I feel like that app is almost good. There are both great and poor stuff about the UI as well.

\nI donā€™t really know about the difference between Quick Answers and FastGPT, to be honest. I just thought perhaps doing the custom bang would be even more reliable. And wouldnā€™t you be able to make a custom bang to the Assistant as well, if you want every browser search field to be a portal there?

I donā€™t use Kagiā€™s AI stuff, really, though, as I always have Raycast AI accessible with a hotkey. So I donā€™t subscribe to the Assistant. (Also, Iā€™m still weary about using LLMs for facts that I donā€™t intent to check somehow. So Iā€™ll usually do web searches for those.)
