Qatar has confirmed that there won’t be any direct and/or high level talks been the US and Iran in Doha. Iranian ministers are adamant that there will not be any negotiations until the MOU conditions are met. Lots of rhetoric, not much diplomacy.

Although tRump has stated that talks with Iran will resume in the Gulf on 30 June, the Iranians have said that there are no plans for talks. We have seen and heard all of this before. The diplomats engaged on this file have my sympathies.

Despite the MOU and statements about “ceasefires”, the US and Iran have had tit for tat military strikes. So what is this? It definitely is not winning and the conflict is definitely not over. It is not diplomacy as we know it.

Control of the Strait of Hormuz continues to dominate the headlines and the negotiations, with a particular focus on the price of oil. The price has increased following news that a cargo vessel was attacked. The UN has suspended evacuations now.
