I think there may have been two others that did the same during that time frame. I didn’t have a rain gauge in the years before that. I spent much of my fall/winter 2023 fixing our gravel road to repair and prepare. Seems like it’s best to now expect an increase of frequency of such events.

I’ve already got the file sharing issue resolved. The only outstanding problem is Bluetooth.
\nI suspect that hopping to different distros in the hopes of solving that would be a mistake as it’s time spent with setting it all up again and no guarantee that the new distro will actually fix the problem and not introduce others. I think I’ll eventually find a fix and until then the wired keyboard is easy enough to live with.

I forgot to mention that in my post. There are options in settings to select to improve that but they’re not obvious. I found them via a YouTube post I think… or maybe it was a forum post. What worked for me was Keyboard>Layouts>Options>Alt and Win behavior> “Ctrl is mapped to Win and the usual Ctrl”.

\nAgreed 100% with Pratik. You are avoiding the specific problem that Vincent has created in his public posts. There is now a perception of him and by extension, you because you’re still employing him (as a contractor) and list him as a team member on the front page of micro.blog. And after reading the thread in question I agree with the sentiment shared by others that you’re avoiding dealing with it.

\nWe’re in a truly dangerous moment right now in the US, one that is especially dangerous for people who are not cis white men. Trans folk are under direct assault by Trump’s new government and Musk is right there for all of it. Even worse, he’s gone full-on-Nazi on his social media network. There should be no hedging on that. That is the context.
Vincent is on the front page of micro.blog as being on the micro.blog team who has written public posts which are being flagged by some as problematic and by others as transphobia. His recent Twitter posts are easily seen as cheerleading Musk who many now see as a Nazi.
\nThe impression that you’re creating in your communication is that you don’t see the connections or that you see it but don’t want to acknowledge or deal with it.

@petebrown Agreed. But in truth, it’s already too late. We should still make the effort to mitigate but worst case scenarios are no baked in. Year-by-year, decade by decade, we get further into how much worse. We’re at 1.5° now and have all but guaranteed 2° of warming. Many climate scientists say we are irreversibly headed to 3 to 4°. The time to act was 10 years ago. And in 2025 we are poised to continue in the wrong direction for years to come.
\nI see no signs that the majority are willing to act. Most people in the Global North continue to insist that there is nothing they can do. Citizens point fingers of blame at everyone but themselves and insist on going about normal life with no disruption or inconvenience.
\nThere is and will be little to no protest to force the kind of political and systemic changes needed. There is and will be too little effort at the local level to institute change.
\nI woke up this morning in my tiny house at 56° F just as I let it warm to 80°+ in the summer. I refuse to fly. I rarely drive. I had no children and am a vegetarian. I can go on and on about my individual efforts as well as my efforts to protest and organize locally over the years. But in all of my extended family there is not a one that has made any effort. None. I look around and I see those of the Global North unwilling to make even a minimum effort. What’s required is far more drastic than the minimum.
