@hutaffe yes. To the point a startup I was in actually was pulling them apart to utilize the motherboard and some components in a prototype. The pricing made it cheaper when you needed a Mac. Ultimately ported the system to Linux and carried on, but the eMac was an interesting system.

@manton might just be the way I use my devices, but that’s an example, as is the inability to use the default text select/copy/look up/search/etc features built into the Apple system controls. When the text fields are custom and don’t allow those things it really ticks me off. Apple is ALSO guilty of this in their messages app as of the last few years.

@manton I wonder if the Mastodon approach is looking for a way to make things “controllably viral”? Try to head of the chaotic doxxing and mob-harassment we now see instantly from the Muskxites but still be able to “go viral” without the old centralized aggregators like slashdot of the early web days before the walled social media gardens of algorithm amplification?

And a bonus post. For the AI curious in software development, I did a “rubber duck session” and Claude.ai found a typo, (had a - in one and a __ in the other between the words). I could not spot it for an hour. It’s a damned fine rubber duck IMO.

Two things. Update the MacBook Pro to a new m4 max monster. Why? Because I use them until they literally can’t do the job anymore. Loving it over the last two months. Well worth it.

The more I learn about Rails the more impressed I am with the framework for clean web development. Rails 7 is kilometres beyond Rails 5 and Rails 8 goes further. When I evaluated other frameworks I felt they were either “expose everything to do anything” or they were trying to be Rails. Huh.

Just appalled at our provincial government stomping in and screwing up a multi-billion dollar transit plan on a whim. They have recommended a foolish and damaging above ground route through downtown against a plan that was years in the making with extensive study, prep, and consultation. #YYC

Well gonna try getting into a posting habit. Been running my 2018 MacBook Pro a lot more heavily with system developmentnt of late. Fans really didn’t want to slow down. Decides it’s probably been a long time and might need to clean the fans and channels…. Uh. Yeah. Airflow? That wasn’t a thing.

@manton well took a leap of faith. Never saw any indication of the discount until I got the invoice that showed 25% off. Updated my payment plan to Apple Pay and then updated the subscription. Saw $10 and it said activated. Nothing I saw until the invoice on share or coupon or checkout or anything.

trying to get back into micro.blog but the iOS is insisting on an email link sign in and I am never getting an email! using AppleID on the web works, but i mucb orefer the native clients. Finally created my own blog to see if that was the cause but still no joy. @manton ?
