If you're on an assembly line, there's a linear relationship between time on task and productivity. \nSketchbook study, trying to come to mske sense of the dual nature of mountains: at once robust and surprisingly fragile.

On a recent hike through the alps I came across these pieces of soft, dark rock. I think it’s a type of schist. At any rate, I found that by grinding two pieces together I can make a lovely, warm pigmented ink. So I’m drawing mountains with the stuff of the mountains.

Sketchbook study of Mönch, the second of the famous three largest mountains of the northern Swiss Alps — Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. Eiger, the ogre, was to my left as I drew this. Truly intimidating.

I did this outside Trümmelbachfälle, looking down the magnificent Lauterbrunnental. This valley famously inspired Tolkien — Rivendell is based on it. (Trümmelbachfälle is an indescribable (and enormous) waterfall inside the valley wall.)

One of the highlights of Berlin is the Jüdisches Museum by Daniel Libeskind. This work, Fallen Leaves, is by Israeli artist Menashe Kadisheman (1932 – 2015). Comprising more than 10,000 faces in steel it was dedicated by the artist to all victims of war and violence.
