This film captures struggles I recognise all too well from my past. The stark contrast between the working class life and the elusive world of art once mirrored my own life quite a bit.

🎵 The Vancouver Soundscape (1973)

Finally listened to this peculiar record, featuring one of the first projects of The World Soundscape Project, marking the start of the acoustic ecology field of research.

The study resulted in a recording, The Vancouver Soundscape which was published in 1973. It consisted of phonographical recordings of local soundscapes and soundmarks as well as a spoken documentary recording by R. Murray Schafer discussing notions of acoustic design, providing analysis of examples of good and bad acoustic design in Vancouver, illustrated with further recordings.

The death of his son causes McElwee, an autobiographical filmmaker, to look back on his life’s work.

Although it is a very dramatic documentary about the loss of his son, it never truly moved me. I found it too much of an ego-driven (and too long) film centered on the director himself. It did, however, make me very curious about his apparently most famous documentary Sherman’s March (1985).

@rudyvanbelkom LLM’s omarmen gaat me wat ver, maar wij zien (op een kunstacademie) veel mooie voorbeelden van co-creatie met AI. Een tegenbeweging is er ook; herwaardering voor analoge technologie en makerschap. @thisness Can’t wait, it’s only due out in April over here… Hope your son liked it too. Both of my daughters have it as well. It’s a struggle at times (we can all suppress our tics most of the time, but that takes a lot of energy), but as long as we stay focused on the many upsides, we’ll manage 🙂
