🎤 One of my better field recordings yet of the stridulation sounds of underwater bugs! This particular (and peculiar) sound seems to be of the Gewone Sigaar (Sigara Striata), a fairly common one in the western part of the Netherlands.

This behavior is mostly associated with insects, but other animals are known to do this as well, such as a number of species of fish, snakes and spiders. Does NZ have digital rights organisations like we have Bits of Freedom?
