I used to live in a 1896 Victorian in SF, and the few wall boxes I replaced switches on myself, the crumbing original rubber insulation on the wiring absolutely terrified me. (For post-install electrical fire risk, turning off the breakers made the install safe enough…) We still had some knob-and-tube wiring in our kitchen!

Highest level of engineering talent I’ve ever been around. Be people went everywhere afterwards, and Be DNA is in more than one major OS today.
