I’m struggling to find any Apple blogs that still review apps. It seems they all just review accessories now. I doubt this is just the removal of the app store affiliate cut but that’s surely a factor in it. It almost makes me want to start an Apple App reviewing blog.

@maique Honestly, I think they're the best.

@ChrisJWilson Agree with you. I think they're the only ones I still bother to check.

@ChrisJWilson What would one even call an Apple app review blog... 🤔

<risk of domain buying rising>

@ChrisJWilson I would subscribe. I dropped Mac Stories for this reason (and that it became too much about their own personal workflows).

@agilelisa I used to be a club member and avid reader but now I just dip in and I'm not sure why exactly. I quote enjoyed their workflows perspective as it wasn't just enticing me to switch todo apps each week! I can certainly see why that would grate though.

@pimoore @bradenslen @agilelisa @aa @gr36 IF I did this (which I definitely won't as I don't have time and it would have to be a passion project as it would be terrible to monetize and people don't really search for new apps anymore now that the market has matured), what would you want / expect? A couple of apps a week? 500ish words on each? screenshots and maybe some video?

@ChrisJWilson I was also thinking about writing my own app reviews! I love trying new apps and have been a beta tester for a lot of apps.

@ChrisJWilson That sounds like a lot of work. Yeah at least 500 words. Enough to tell me if it is worth trying or to avoid.

You could make this a category on your personal blog. It does not have to be a pro job on it's own domain if you are not going to monitize. Do it as a hobby with no pressure or schedule. The search engines will index each page anyway.

Example: I don't have a website dedicated to search engines but my occasional reviews on my persoanl blog get traffic.

@ChrisJWilson I’d keep it short and sweet. Video, audio, photos, written word…whatever gets the point across on an app by app basis. Things you’ve tried, why, and why it works to keep or isn’t worth the time/money.

@ChrisJWilson I’d be happy with an app or two a month! But no pressure at all, you should only do this if you want to.

@ChrisJWilson thereview.app ?

Edit: that’s taken. But theapp.review is available, although a premium domain. €520 when I checked.

@ningkantida That's fantastic! By the way I snooped around your site and I love your start here page. I look forward to reading some of your reviews.

@bradenslen To be honest, this is probably the right way to do it. I published articles on "My favourite mac/iphone/ipad" a couple of years back and that was fun.

@ChrisJWilson I'm glad you like my outline-from-nothing page lol. Do you have anything you'd like to read first? I could do it for you after I finish writing about my micro.blog experience next week.
