Using @Overcastfm to download @MacBreakWeekly but it is requiring a connection to chtbl.com, a tracker, which is blocked by NextDNS.io and Pi-Hole.net (but not @ControlDNS). This is NOT good.

@rom Same thing for me (I also use NextDNS), but I was able to download the same episode in Apple Podcasts. If NextDNS was blocking the download I can’t see it working in any podcast app?

@pimoore @rom Basically, the way Chartable (chtbl.com) is able to produce download statistics is by inserting it in between the podcast hosting and the podcast player. Podcasts using Chartable simply prefix the audio file URL with a chtbl.com adress, which will then redirect to the original file. Since the chtbl.com address is in the podcast feed, all podcatchers will have the same issue when that domain gets blocked.

@jeroensangers @rom What I don’t understand is how I was able to download it using the stock app? NextDNS blocks device-wide so it shouldn’t have worked. However, I’m also not seeing the Chartable domain blocked in my logs, so I’m wondering if the difference is the lists I use.

@jeroensangers @rom Just double-checked, and chtbl.com is not blocked on my lists (EasyList, EasyPrivacy, Fanboy’s Annoyance, Lightswitch05). The fact it still didn’t work in Overcast seems to point the finger at that app as having an issue.
