Biggest scare of my life.
Yesterday tinyMovieStar swallowed a hair clip, and it got stuck in her throat. Instinct kicked in for me, apparently I did all the wrong moves, but she threw it up in the end.
My heart wasn’t beating while it lasted.

@Miraz It wasn’t good. When it ended, and her mom was in the room trying to get her to sleep, I stayed back in the living room, shaking a bit, and a couple of tears rolled down my face.
And I slept with her, couldn’t stay on our bed.
@maique OMG, I got frightened just by reading this, can't even imagine what you were going through! Glad to hear she is okay. Whenever Miguel attempt to put something on his mouth, we just to scream no to him. This is scary. 🥲
@pcora She's fine. Mom screamed her lungs out, but she did it anyway. The scream made me jump to my feet, and I honestly have no idea what was going through my mind, I just grabbed her and made sure it was out. Brain function resumed after the clip was on the floor. I don't think I've ever been as scared.
@maique Terrifying! Glad she is fine. I can imagine the agony, the helplessness you must have lived through in those brief moments.
@amit Everything is fine, that's the important bit. It was scary, hope I never have to go through it again.
@maique fuuuuuck. Make sure you and mum are also okay — my heart rate suddenly went up just reading this!
@SimonWoods I think we are, now. Yesterday, when she fell asleep, we were back in the living room, and just looked at each other. The word that came out of our mouths, at the same time, was the Portuguese version of the first one on your reply! 😓Just like that too, a loooooong one.
@maique Just reading about it immediately had my finger ready to fish it out of her mouth. “Parent brain” is a real thing. Very glad that you were there to it out and that she is ok.
@maique So glad she is okay, so glad you were there!!! And, it's amazing how later on, the kids are fine and the parents are traumatized. (I still vividly remember when one of our toddlers had inserted a small object waaaay up her nostril... which we discovered when she started having trouble breathing.)
@annahavron I had thought about it, how would we react when something like this happened, hoping, unrealistically, that this moment would never come. I’m sure we’ll have a few more in the future, but it’s not nice, that’s for sure. We’re trying our best, as everyone else, and it’s a challenge. Even without these life threatening situations.
@pimoore Everything is fine. But incredible how those 2 minutes left such a long lasting effect.
@maique At my 50th birthday party, I got a piece of food stuck in my throat. I have no idea how many minutes the ordeal lasted. It was like a slow motion movie with no soundtrack, except the voices of my friend and my sister calling the paramedics. I’m so glad she is alright, and I’m sure it will take a while longer for you to be alright.
@maique That’s terrible! Good thing you reacted so quickly. This is something I don’t envy parents.
@KimberlyHirsh @maique My biggest fear is choking when I’m alone. So important to know the Heimlich maneuver, both for others as well as administering it to yourself.
@KimberlyHirsh @pimoore I used to fear this for myself, but now that fear has grown very much. BTW, I’m not sure I’d be able to administer the maneuver to myself!
@maique That was scary. I'm glad you were able to catch it in time. Kids and their fondness for putting small objects in their mouth will be the death of us.
@pratik We were standing next to her, very lucky. The fact that we cannot be present all the time has been one of the worries from today 😩
@maique Always a worry. I remember once our son was munching on a badge that had a safety pin on it while he was sleep-walking. I had to push my fingers in his mouth and pry it out. He didn't remember any of it the next morning 😒
@maique So glad tinyMS is OK! It is such a scare when something like that happens to your kids. And I can image the long "f*****da-se" of relief.
@maique So glad everything is OK. But jeepers! What a nightmare.
@maique oh gosh. Just reading this 12 hours after you posted and knowing that all is OK now….and still I could feel anxiety jump into me.
I’m very happy to hear that tinyMovieStar is doing well….as well as mum and dad.
