@dominikhoecht I quit Facebook and Instagram this spring and have never looked back.

I would like to leave WhatsApp as well, but that is going to be a lot harder…

@jeroensangers Instagram I'm still thinking at the moment. I would like to port everything to Micro.blog. Maybe Instagram will follow. At Whatsapp I am sadly "bound" by my wife, family, friends. Unfortunately, no one wants to look for an alternative. :(

@dominikhoecht Concerning WhatsApp, I am in a very similar issue. Everybody is using it. My thought is that if I leave, at least part of my contacts will start using alternative platforms (Telegram, Signal, Messages…) just to stay in contact with me, though I will probably loose contact with some people. The idea is to sacrifice myself for the public good and force people to at least consider alternatives.

@dominikhoecht “Friends rarely post to the service anymore." Ain't that the truth!

I left the big 3 last year. Feels great!

@jeroensangers I left FB a year ago with few regrets. But It's true that I've completely lost touch with a few people I enjoyed talking to.
If I had it to do over, I'd announce my departure a couple of weeks ahead of time, post my email address and invite anyone who wants to stay in touch to use that, and to send me their email address.
Sadly, I suspect that some "friends" would still just disappear.
What is a friend, then? :-(

@jeroensangers I have also thought about writing about it several times: I'll be gone then, you can reach me via Threema or another safe alternative. End.

@chet I'm getting better and better. The desire to open Facebook goes slowly towards zero. I like that you gave up FB three years ago!

@JMaxB True friends are never lost. I think it's only when you give up Facebook that you learn who your true friends are.

@phrequencyviii Waste of time, right. At Micro.blog I have more the feeling to do something right. The interaction is better, the content is better. I am very satisfied!

@martinfeld It feels good right now, yeah. And right. I thought about deleting my FB account months ago. I am glad that I finally took this step.

@dominikhoecht I found out who my true friends are when I emigrated in the pre-social network era. Some of my friends I see only once a year face-to-face, but we have no need at all to connect digitally as well.
