LMAO @ Space Force. An acutal branch of the US militray.

That money could have been used to house the unhoused, fed the hungry, support those that need support.

@joelhamill I never understood why Biden didn’t reverse that one.

@JohnPhilpin I imagine it's because Biden is more of a conventional president than Trump ever was and since the previous president created it, now it's just part of our military. Much like how the Department of Homeland Security is part of our government thanks to W, even though there isn't really a need for the department.

@joelhamill @JohnPhilpin In the early rocket days the USN and USAF were both trying to build rockets for space. NASA was created to take civil and scientific exploration of space out of military hands.

In this case both USAF and USN have their own narrow needs and agendas (ie. navigation, finding enemy submarines or planes) Neither is able to step back and look at the Big Picture of defending against militarized Space. Hence Space Force.

I can see the logic, however because of who established it I'm having a hard time taking it seriously.

@bradenslen @JohnPhilpin Indeed. It all boils down to who created it. Add to that how close, realistically, are we to actually needing a 'Space Force' to protect against or utilize a militarized Space?

@bradenslen @joelhamill in that context I get the need … a wider mandate than the narrow interpretations that one of the other services would focus on … ✅ … and I know we have the air force … so space force … a natural extension …. Land, Sea, Air and now Space … and still it doesn’t sit well with me … maybe I’m too affected by the Malkovich / Carrell show? Maybe it’s the word ‘force’?

@Pilchuck the new recruits can’t be called ‘space cadets’ … that title was used by the ‘founder’

@Pilchuck @JohnPhilpin @joelhamill I like "Space Navy".

The good thing about using "Force" in the name is it does not sugar coat it: it's a force and it's about force. Truth in labeling.

@odd - whilst I am looking at letterboxed RSS for posting to micro.blog - was wondering if you know whether song.link has something similar? Cant easily find anything - and it isn't even in dark mode - like letterboxed!

@JohnPhilpin No, I’m doing it all manually, would be nice if they built out a service at a low cost.

No, unfortunately we don't have such a feature.

@joelhamill @JohnPhilpin not to rain on the trashing 45 parade (which I’m all for), but, as I understand it, Space Force was essentially just the renaming of an Air Force branch that’s existed for years with a focus on satellites and space-based missile monitoring systems…
