Why is the “tear here” part of a bag / package / box always the strongest part?

@kylebot Funny you mention this, as a couple of times it tore downward and took out the clip to tie the bag closed. 😂 Luckily I store my beans in a canister so no harm no foul. Normally I use scissors, but they were dirty at the time, and coffee was calling.
@pimoore always seems like the more you want (or need, I’m not judging) the coffee, the more extreme the deviation from expected opening path is. 🤦♂️ Auxiliary coffee storage is key.
@pimoore of course! Just like the more / more intensely you curse while untangling a wire, the more tangled it becomes. It’s science 🧑🔬
