@joelhamill Yep, never had one but I wanted one for a long time in lieu of a cell phone.

@joelhamill Had one for a short while before GSM mobile phones. Had to carry change for the telephone kiosks, also a dying breed.

@pimoore You can still get one! and supposedly coverage is better so they're preferred by emergency services.
But if you get paged, usually you have to call someone, so...

@JMaxB Yeah, good luck finding a pay phone. Well, at this point would you even want to use one?

@joelhamill I do remember them being sold (i.e. ads on TV), but I don’t know of anyone who had them. I get the feeling they were not very common here.

@lmika I knew multiple people who had them. Crazy little things. A mobile message receiver before cell phones.

@joelhamill I remember how people used them for rudimentary texting though they only displayed a line of numbers. "07734" upside-down spells "hELLO."

@lmika My wife worked in mental health, and basically every doctor or "on-call" professional wore one. They were good for getting out of meetings. Look concerned, pat your beltline a couple of times, and walk out. Everyone assumes you've been paged.
