@cliffordbeshers I've seen gorgeous orange fungi on bits of driftwood, but not mushrooms just growing out of the sand like that!

@miraz Apparently, there are varieties of mushroom that grow in sand, often specialized to feed on the roots of grasses.

@cliffordbeshers Wow. Excellent find thanks! I think that second link is what I saw. "Dune Brittlestems are saprotrophic on dead Marram Grass" — that would make sense as there's a great deal of Marram grass in our dunes, and recent storms may well have killed some of it off.
