🔍 Took another kayak on the creek. Can’t get too far in either direction with the current water level, but confirmed we have tons of crawdads and mussels. Saw a cool huge turtle shell.

Also figured out the sneks (common watersnakes) like to hang out on the beech & sycamore roots.

@toddgrotenhuis Where are all the crawmums?

@odd 😆 There are so many names for these little crustaceans. Crawfish, craydids, crawdaddies, crawdads, freshwater lobsters, mountain lobsters, rock lobsters, mudbugs, baybugs, yabbies, and probably more! This is just the one I grew up with.

@odd That's funny. My grandson along with his dad recently caught two crawdads and now have them in a fish tank in their house. When I was told what they were called (I thought of them as shrimp), I also wondered about the crawmums! 🤣 @toddgrotenhuis

@toddgrotenhuis Wow! That was a lot of names. I don’t think I have ever seen a freshwater lobster. I do have the book “Where the Crawdads sing” though, yet still unread. 🦞

@odd yep, as @crossingthethreshold mentioned, they are smaller than what you’d normally think of for a lobster. Smaller than langostinos. The ones I was seeing are smaller than some large prawn shrimp.
