Today we saw an Air Force Heritage Flight of New Zealand flypast: the superlative Supermarine Spitfire and three modern Beechcraft T–6C Texan IIs. I thought they were simply flying along the hills then they turned and flew directly overhead.

4 distant propeller planes in formation. The 4 planes catch glints of light as they turn. 4 planes in a tight diamond formation heading straight for the camera. The tight formation of 4 planes directly overhead.

@Miraz The Supermarine Spitfire is not only a beautiful plane, if such can be said about a killing machine, but the name is very awesome too. Let’s hope these planes are the last fighters ever involved in a world war. πŸ•Š

@Miraz funnily enough my mum was talking about the noise that she remembers from the war and Battle of Britain as a spitfire flew up our valley the other day. It’s a magical sound..

@tomc @miraz I love the sound of those Rolls-Royce engines too. We live close to what was RAF Hornchurch and so get relatively frequent visits by planes from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight - the sound is always glorious!

@tomc That makes me realise I was so focused on trying to get some photos I didn't notice any sound! 😳 I recall my Mum once mentioned bomb shelters (she was in London).

@tomc Thanks. For the first time I actually planned my camera settings (only forgot one thing) and I'm pleased some of the photos worked out. πŸ˜€
