Question for you, can I change my terminal username, i.e. instead of mathewpacker, I would like matpacker, as it then matches the logins and whatnot. DreamHost prompts you to save the various keys to the known_hosts file, which then tries to login with the incorrect username.
Bash n00b here! Everything I've searched for points to changing the entire username on MacOS, which I can't believe is the correct way to do it.
@canion I found that I could use Coda 2, which I had already installed an eternity ago, to achieve the login as it allows you to setup different accounts for different servers, and they have the in-built CLI tool. Only issue I have no is that DreamHost doesn't allow root access on their VPS product, so unless they'll install TiddlyWiki for me, I'll need to move my wiki-desires elsewhere.
@matpacker One of the reasons I don't like host providers is the restrictions they arbitrarily set up. I prefer DigitalOcean, and if you are looking for simple instructions on how to set up TiddlyWiki on DigitalOcean, might I suggest my guide. You can also use this with Linode, change step number 2 to Linode's instructions. Let me know if you have any questions. The $5 plan on DO is more than enough to start. I'm using it to run TiddlyWiki and two other apps.
@joshsullivan I’ve been following your guide, it’s made it sooooo easy to get going with the Droplet creation and base server config, today I’ll get on to deploying TiddlyWiki and see how it goes. I’m very confident in saying that I will be moving everything over to DO, it’s faster, I have way more control when/if I want it, and I really really need to learn more about setting up and deploying servers...plus at $5 a month, I can afford to have a “tinker” droplet just there for learnings sake.
@matpacker They have a bunch of tutorials on DO's site on how to set up different services. I have multiple droplets, my main one includes the TiddlyWiki and a YOURLS instance, then I have 8 different client droplets each running wordpress. Everything they do is ridiculously fast, and for the price it's worth it to have at least 1 extra test droplet. I currently have 2 test droplets. I would also recommend taking a snapshot after you set up the server initially so you can go back to having the applications up to date as well as not having to set up a user account and SSH keys again.
