Very excited for the Ulysses beta, which adds Micro.blog publishing.

@manton Trying it, starting today. Has direct posting, not stopping at the Drafts section, i would love to have that on iA Writer. Other than that, how do you feel compared to the offer from iA Writer ? Would love to know your thoughts. @Gaby

@maique to me is that I prefer the way Ulysses handles links, it’s much cleaner and easier to my eyes in a way. I don’t recall this from iA but in Ulysses you can even assign tags/categories already existing in your Micro.blog account. I like that I can skip the drafts part of the publishing process. And most of all Ulysses Revision mode, I love that feature. I think iA writer has something similar but never clicked for me or never knew how to properly use it. It seems easier in Ulysses

@manton Do you know if it’s micro.blog specific or Micropub support?

@mdrockwell But on the plus side, newspapers have a bottom (/back page)

@maique I’ve been using the Beta since it was first released. I have also used iA Writer. To me Ulysses feels more complete. So much more happens in app, including options to add a title or not, schedule, just save as a draft, even an option to see it in the browser or not. I have three Micro.blog blogs under one account, and Ulysses allows me to choose which one I post to. This has made me come back to Ulysses. @Gaby @manton

@crossingthethreshold Thank you for the thorough reply. A few very good points. Not sure how many of those I would use regularly, but some. I like iA Writer, despite it’s faults, but for the most part enjoy the experience I have posting with it. The hefty subscription on Ulysses vs. the already paid iA Writer is also a consideration.

@Gaby Thanks! Found no way to add labels on iA Writer. Not being able to post without editing on the site is my main gripe.

@manton and the latest update added ability to pick the MB you want to post too - excellent was hoping that would come before release

@maique on Ulysses, TAG assignement will be done at export time. Works really well.

@maique I hear you about the subscription. I suffer from subscription fatigue and from time to time review the subscription based apps that I use. If that can be put aside for a moment, I think that at the end of the day it is about workflow. If an app is working for you, regardless of how it shows up in features or how it executes a particular function against another app's take on the same function, stick with the app. You'll be more productive and happier as well! 😊

@zoglesby Sort of both! It's currently designed for Micro.blog, but it does use Micropub, so I think it could be updated to support other systems. Most likely it would need IndieAuth support to sign in to other blogs rather than only pointed to Micro.blog.

@crossingthethreshold 😊 That’s what I try to do. Sometimes it seems I just need the rush that trying new things can provide, but most times I end up with the same app.

@frostedechoes @maique I understand. I have set myself a monthly limit to work with for subscriptions. Yes, that wouldn't exist if subscriptions didn't, but given that they do and I am drawn to some of the apps, I am seeing how(if) I can make it work.

@manton This is cool at the initial level of the technical thing being done and that independent blogging is getting another shot in the arm, thanks in no small part to Micro.blog. 😊

@crossingthethreshold I’d be using Ulysses if it wasn’t for subscription pricing. While I do have an older non-sub version of Ulysses on my Mac, I’m okay with using Byword.

@maique yeah, this was the case for me, too. When I first purchased iA Writer I loved the UX, and that still applies. Also, as a general rule, fewer bells-n-whistles are better for me & my sanity 🤓 #simplicity

@crossingthethreshold ‘subscription fatigue’ is real! I appreciate your take on this, though; I thought the same when I took the plunge this week & bought a year-long HEY email account, realising I’ll be paying $thousands over my lifetime if I decide to stick with it

@rishabh I don’t know if I have apps that are indispensable to me. Though having said that, HEY has been a big help for me getting control back on my email, and I have no plans on moving away from that any time soon!
