Just waking up, already booked for Tuesday through Friday!

Darn, these early morning calls are usually bad news, not so much today.

@maique Glad you seem to be getting work on the regular. (I know you miss your ladies too but it's good be in demand.)

@gregmoore Even after all these years I’m not used to the inconsistency of the freelancer life. It’s stressful!

@maique Eight years in, I'm still not used to it…

@adders I’m afraid it will never be “normal” for me. Grew old as staff in the newsroom, lack the basic skills to survive in the freelancer world, I have no talent whatsoever, or will for that matter, to sell my services or myself. Everything is strange.

@maique You just succinctly summarized why I took this 40-hour/week gig. I can write all day…but I can't sell myself for shit.

@jessekelber Sometimes I miss the routine. I’m lucky that my 20 years at the paper gave me some “visibility”, and I’m still getting some assignments from that. If you didn’t know my work, or come across it these days (pretty hard to spot, if I may say so) I would have no work at all! Ahahahahah. Thankfully it’s a small country, and two decades at that particular newspaper managed to get me some gigs outside it.

@maique How awesome you had that name recognition/reputation built up. Switching careers at 40, and not having a big network to begin with…and being a ridiculously strong introvert…and...and…sigh.

I loved the freedom, etc. But I missed the structure, regular paycheck, benefits, and ability to take a week off every now and then without worrying about losing a client as a result.

@jessekelber Exactly the same situation over here, but 50 next year, and the baby. Most days I don’t even stress too much, enjoying it as much as I can. But when I worry, it’s the no-sleep-for-days kinda worry.

I’m sure everything will work out in the end for both of us 🤞🏼

@maique @jessekelber I have freelanced on occasion in my career, and will likley to do again.

I'm OK at selling myself but I dislike doing it. It's not that I consider it unseemly, it's just not fun for me.
