Just replaced a hard disc in my NAS. The old one gave up after almost nine years – I guess that’s a good life span for a consumer grade HDD.
@matpacker It's 2011 2-bay Synology. Those actually were Seagate Barracudas which have a pretty bad reputation but they worked fine for me. I've replaced them with WD Reds now.
@lostfocus that is an amazing amount of time for the Barracudas to last! Did you do any particular maintenance or anything?
