Not sure when it happened, but the best way to read and experience The Economist is on the Kindle. First of all there are no ads. Each article has a small bar at the bottom to show you how far into the article you’ve gotten. It gives you the number of words in the article right at the s... www.kaa.bz

@kaa are you able to connect your subscription between Economist and kindle? Or do you only get the kindle edition?

@kordumb I just went for the Kindle Edition. While reading their stuff on a website my suit some, I am trying to only use the browser for very specific tasks at very specific times. The experience on the Kindle is that much better as well.

@frostedechoes highly recommend it actually. I'm using a 6 year old Kindle and while it can be sluggish at times, for the most part it handles things very well. The only reason for me to upgrade my Kindle at this stage is battery...

@kaa Can the battery be replaced easily? Got a Paperwhite a year ago. Hope I can have it replaced myself.

@odd Ha! After I posted that I thought I'd look into it a little. Seems like a pretty easy thing to do tbh. Its just about finding the right battery for your Kindle it would seem.

@grayareas You absolutely can. I wll say however that the dedicated buttons for sections and articles on the Kindle is much more intuative than on the iOS app (clearly an Amazon iOS failing, but still it's all manageable).

@kaa did you subscribe via kindle, or do you have a digital subscription and are using a technique to send to kindle?

@grayareas @kaa yes, you can definitely use the kindle app too. I enjoy the audio version of The Economist through their app so I’d miss that. Most Condé Nast magazines allow you to connect your subscription to Amazon and get the kindle version for free, was hoping that was the case here too.

@kaa Thanks. I’d definitely want to read it on the kindle, but it would be nice to have the flexibility of still reading it when stuck somewhere with only my iPhone.

@kordumb So it’s not. I’m frustrated that Amazon won’t let the Economist simply verify customers so that we could have both options for consumption.

@grayareas just to clarify to make sure I didn’t explain poorly the first time, if you subscribe with Amazon you can read on Kindle device and Kindle apps. But, I believe it’s The Economist who prevents you from connecting to Amazon if you subscribe through the Economist. I subscribe to the New Yorker through the New Yorker, and am able to connect it to Amazon so I can read it on a kindle device, kindle app, New Yorker app, New Yorker website, or print. Hopefully I didn’t make things more confusing..

@kordumb No, I understood you. But there’s a detailed comment on the Amazon product page making the argument that in this case it is Amazon’s issue. But that guy may be wrong for all I know. Says Economist is not allowed to verify subscribers with Amazon’s servers. 🤷🏼‍♂️

@grayareas oh weird. I could also be wrong. Just assumed it was more a technology issue that was solved and since Amazon had the capability to do Condé Nast subs I figured the option was there for Economist too. Ditto on the 🤷‍♂️
