I wish there was a way to subscribe to writers the same way you can use RSS. Obviously twitter gets you the closest, but usually a whole lot more than just the articles they’ve written. It would be awesome if every time Danny Chau or Wesley Morris published a piece I’d know.

@kordumb I think The Athletic might do this. I know you can follow individual writers within their app. I should look into this more.

@sku\_b @thatguygriff the Athletic probably gets the closest. Although they just get thrown into the main feed and are easily missed if you’re not paying attention. Ideally, I’d have a service to follow a writer from NYT, Athletic, and freelance all in one place like RSS. Pipe dream obviously.

@vasta interesting. Do you remember where you found the feed? I found the index and feeds for their columnists, which I tried various ways to insert Morris’ name with no luck...

@vasta on the web for both iOS and desktop, there are three dots in the top right corner. If you select that, there is a “Subscriptions” option, which takes you to the list of feeds with URLs. I did try pasting the Wesley Morris author page url in Feedbin and a few others but no luck there either.

@kordumb This is an interesting problem; obviously, it would be in-theory easy to solve for people who write for only one publication, if the publication so desired.

@c has mentioned some type of tool he uses to create custom feeds of content, which perhaps could be used to create a feed of a writer’s work across publications—but someone would have to curate it (in a near-perfect world, the author him/herself would curate it and host it on his/her own website, “Follow all my work in this RSS feed”).

This feels like one of those projects that RSS would have evolved to tackle if it hadn’t been declared perfect and frozen in stone by Harvard. Hopefully someone in the IndieWeb is thinking about it, though, because it seems like a key piece of a reopened web.

@smokey Muck Rack seems to be a tool journalists use as a portfolio. I’m assuming they curate themselves so it spans publications. Unfortunately, it seems to be more of an industry tool than something for consumers and doesn’t appear to have any RSS feeds (as far as I can tell). // @c @vasta @sku\_b @thatguygriff

@kordumb @vasta @sku\_b @thatguygriff I've framed the broader idea and pushed it out to some friends. Maybe something useful will come back? I'd love some better solutions to this problem. boffosocko.com/2020/01/1...

@c this was great. I forgot Feedbin allows you to follow Twitter users, with the option not to see retweets and limit it to only tweets with media or links. For writers who do use Twitter, this is probably the best solution I’ve found so far.
