It took two months but I finally decided to go the pro route for Drafts. I started tinkering with the app 2 months ago now, but I realised I should have gone all in the second my MacBook died on me. I have long consider Notational Velocity (followed by The Archive)the quintessential app... www.kaa.bz

@cm Yes, that is the perfect way to describe it, so deep.

@cm You read my mind :). So as soon as I had made up my mind I dropped Greg an email, he came back with this:

The best way to do that, if you need separate files, is to configure a custom action which writes a draft to file in the format and location you desire, then use the “Select > Operations” options in the draft list to select drafts, and use the “Run Action” operation option to run that action on all the selected drafts. You can tap and hold “Select” to select all drafts in the list.

Will need to do all that and will share when I have made something.

Workspaces are incredible. They let my thoughts focus. I’ll post some things about this pretty soon.

@kaa @cm - your thoughts on Drafts have me intrigued. I’ve been an iA Writer devotee for years now: is Drafts a good replacement for iA Writer - or a useful supplement?

@twweaver I’m in the middle of writing something much larger about this, but definitely a companion app. It shines in a way that iA Writer would struggle with. iA writer is for focus and long form. Drafts is for collecting thoughts, posting to Micro.blog and working on drafts.

@kaa I have come and gone, for all sorts of reasons, from Drafts since version v4 on iOS. I still use The Archive for holding my notes, but find the quick accessibility and ease of writing in Drafts a big draw. I have written a short action which will take a draft and add it to my notes when I open up The Archive. It works so that the resultant note is in the format that I am using in The Archive. Very useful.

I even wrote an iOS Shortcut for taking text written elsewhere and putting it into my The Archive repository, but that of course is only of use to me in iOS. With Drafts I have access to a quick note anywhere.

@cm The file system does seem a bit strange to me, but the benefits of the app are starting to become clear. Not sure if it’ll work in my workflow - though I would like a better capture/inbox system - but I may give it a go.
