@manton I might be missing something, but where's the share option? Is it similar to how Feedbin does sharing (which is the cannonical version I think because of how well it's implemented,...similar to posting/replying on Mb.

@kaa With an article selected, you can click the share icon in the toolbar and there's an option for Micro.blog. It opens the Micro.blog for macOS app and formats the link with Markdown.

@kaa There's an online help book that covers it.

@manton I shared the post with my brother @limako who reports that he "purchased a copy of NetNewsWire 2.1 on July 26, 2006." At about that time I was using Rojo (RSS with Mojo).

@philipbrewer @limako Wow. Nice reminder of how long a history NetNewsWire has had.

@manton Right. Not sure if it’s just me but the Micro.blog app needs to be open already to work correctly, but yeah looks good.

@kaa you mean you close micro blog?

@JohnPhilpin nope so when you are in NNW, and share something the extension doesn’t work if the micro.blog app isn’t open already

@kaa Hmm, I just tested again and NetNewsWire does launch Micro.blog for me if it's not running. Does it work for you the second time? I glanced at the code in NetNewsWire and it seems right, so let me know if it's not working reliably.

@kaa so just tried and this is what happens for me ...

if open - it just works

if not open - the share extension opens micro blog - but no post to publish - then share again and then works as if it is open.

is that what you get?

@JohnPhilpin There is some code to make it wait in the not-open-yet case. Maybe that wait time needs to be longer, or maybe there’s another way to figure out when it’s okay to send it the text from NetNewsWire.

@JohnPhilpin What I really want is for Micro.blog.app to include a Share extension. :)

@brentsimmons @kaa @JohnPhilpin That makes sense that it might be timing-related... It's working correctly for me even when the app isn't launched.

@manton Something like this could depend on the computer, some being faster than others.

@brentsimmons well now given that @danielpunkass and Mars Edit still suggests Wordpress over Micro Blog as a simple place to get started when setting up a blog ... I wonder whether you three kids ought to have a conflab 😂 // @manton

@brentsimmons @manton so the issue appears to be the Micro.blog app(?)...at least on my machine. So when I share from NNW to MarsEdit, no problems, it opens MarsEdit, opens a new post and fills the entire post HTML. When I share to the Micro.blog app it opens the app and that's it. When I share again with the app open, then it fills the title and link in markdown.

My machine is older, it's a 2013/2014 MacBook Pro, so yeah maybe it is causing a problem, but it's not slower, it just doesn't appear.

@kaa @brentsimmons I'm also on a 2013 MacBook Pro so I wonder if something else is going on... If you have time, file a bug in Micro.blog and I can test more and move it over to NetNewsWire if there's a problem there.
