Why do almost all non-Apple laptops have trackpads that are off center? And why are they always shifted to the left?

@mdrockwell how many of those laptops have numpads?

@sgtstretch some, but not all. I kind-of understand the rationale at that point. But I want my trackpad centered in front of the screen, not centered based on the QWERTY section of my keyboard.

@mdrockwell wider keyboards, especially with numpads, centering to where your thumbs are when you’re hovering over home row keys.

@mdrockwell Most non-Apple laptops are not designed with as much attention to symmetry and ergonomics as Apple laptops. (Some are, of course.) I think part of it is that Apple caters to the high-end of the market ($1,000 and up) while PC manufacturers run the gamut, and you’d have to be pretty serious about hardware to spend $1,000 on a PC laptop.

@mdrockwell oh I think it’s obnoxious, having the entire keyboard off center is super awkward also.

@mdrockwell I always believed Apple, or some other "corporate" idiot, has a patent for perfectly centered trackpads...
