@dominikhoecht I quit Facebook and Instagram this spring and have never looked back.

I would like to leave WhatsApp as well, but that is going to be a lot harder…

@dominikhoecht Concerning WhatsApp, I am in a very similar issue. Everybody is using it. My thought is that if I leave, at least part of my contacts will start using alternative platforms (Telegram, Signal, Messages…) just to stay in contact with me, though I will probably loose contact with some people. The idea is to sacrifice myself for the public good and force people to at least consider alternatives.

@dominikhoecht “Friends rarely post to the service anymore." Ain't that the truth!

I left the big 3 last year. Feels great!

@jeroensangers I left FB a year ago with few regrets. But It's true that I've completely lost touch with a few people I enjoyed talking to.
If I had it to do over, I'd announce my departure a couple of weeks ahead of time, post my email address and invite anyone who wants to stay in touch to use that, and to send me their email address.
Sadly, I suspect that some "friends" would still just disappear.
What is a friend, then? :-(

@dominikhoecht I found out who my true friends are when I emigrated in the pre-social network era. Some of my friends I see only once a year face-to-face, but we have no need at all to connect digitally as well.
