@jeremycherfas Absolutely, yes. This is a common feature among most of my favorite pencils. Firmer cores have a higher clay content, which (depending somewhat on the clay) tends to produce more tactile feedback. My preference for this has roots in how I write. I discovered as a child that if the graphite was too dark, smooth, or slippery, my handwriting quickly deteriorated because I would simply press harder and harder till I sensed resistance. Firmer cores allowed me to feel that resistance sooner, and I’d back off. I’ve since learned to write perfectly well with darker graphite, but writing with lighter, grittier graphite remains a deeply satisfying experience.

@rnv I hated the Field Notes pencils at first, but I have grown to like them a lot, for the same reasons.
