After taking a well needed break I'm back for now. I wish I could say I found some answers, though I'm arranging for some counselling support so I guess that's at least one. I need to culture more happiness for myself in whatever way necessary, and find some positive direction.

@pimoore Hang in there. If you need to vent/dump, feel free. I’ll listen, but probably can’t help. I would suggest a concerted effort at picking up meditation for mental balance and tai chi for physical stress relief will help. The mind can be turned-off/disengaged.

@pimoore Do what you can to get a spark going, Pete. It’s so easy to slide into a bad track. I think @archimage is on to something with meditation. It has helped me in the past.

@lukemperez @jayeless @pratik @Archimage @odd @crossingthethreshold @KevinEagan Thank you all very much, I’m humbled. ☺️

Definitely agree with the meditation idea, and ironically Tai Chi is something I’ve wanted to take up for a long time. Perhaps the world is subtly telling me to become a Buddhist. One thing I now definitely realize is that I need some more hobbies outside of the tech and digital realm.

@pimoore Good move! The Happiness Lab with Dr. Laurie Santos podcast has been very interesting. She examines 'happiness' from a scientific perspective. It might interest you.

@pimoore Welcome back. I’ve struggled with happiness but I think you nailed it right here.. One thing I now definitely realize is that I need some more hobbies outside of the tech and digital realm. one of the things that help me is do something with my hands. So I have a fledgling woodshop. Hope you find a way through. @miraz thanks so much for the pod I’m just working my way through 🙂great find.

Truly humbled, thank you all so much. 🙏 So much food for thought in this thread, not just for myself but for anyone struggling who's looking for help and answers. Beyond meditation and Tai Chi, I'm definitely going to immerse myself more into stoicism. In addition I'd like to take up and learn something artistic like drawing, or playing piano. Photography crossed my radar as well, and while there's still a digital component to it I'd be willing to let that slide. 😉

This gave the biggest smile I've had in at least the last two years. No words. 💙 😊

@pimoore You don’t need to be a Buddhist to take up Tai Chi. Seriously, go for it. It’s relaxing, healthy, and fun.

@pimoore Also, I recommend journaling. Any type. Getting stuff out of your head helps.

@Archimage I studied Karate in my teenage years (Wa-Do-Ryu), so the thought of doing Tai Chi has appealed to me for a long time. I’ve already done BuJo, but I need to embrace even more analogue journaling and have another break from the digital realm. I’ve lost a semblance of balance in my life and that needs to change.

@pimoore Start small. I don’t reccommend a formal journaling such as BuJo. That’s too much like organizing, micro-tasking, and tracking. Journal thoughts, feelings, plans, accomplishments, and not task lists. You probably have enough to do lists and calendars ;)

@pimoore Get outside. Take walks. Encounter nature, if you can. Sit and stare without thinking and judging. Experience. It’s hard to do but meditation & TaiChi will help get control.
