@jemostrom Lovely photos of dogs. 😀 Any chance you know the breed for the small long-haired dog on the table?
@jemostrom Aha! I thought it might be. Our dogs are / were a cross between Lhasa Apso and Shih Tzu.
@Miraz Ahhh, there were quit a few of them. We came mostly for those who came after them Finnish Lapphund and Eurasier together with breeds like Belgian Shepheard - mostly Malinois and Tervuren, German Shepard, Border Collie, and Chodský pes (unfortunately I didn't see one)
@jemostrom Thought so. :D I had a look at the breeds you linked further up. It's the Eurasier, innit? I adore most Spitz breeds, such beautiful dogs, even if some don't have the best of reputation…
@Stefanyeah no, it's a Finnish Lapphund. Personally I really like all kind of shepard dogs, the Belgians, German Shepard, Chodsky Pes, etc. and Border Collie. But unfortunately it's not realistic for me to get one - I live too far away from where I work and couldn't take care of one while working. Weekends would be easy, the forest starts where our lawn ends. So if I ever get a dog it would probably be an Eurasier or a Finnish Lapphund.
@jemostrom Guessed wrong then… :P
Sadly, work often prevents a reponsible person from adopting dogs.
@Stefanyeah yeah, they are quite similar when you look at photos. When viewed in IRL there is a noticeable difference the Eurasians are 50-60 cm in height, 10-20 taller that a Finnish Lapphund 40-50 cm. They are also broader over the shoulders. I saw one yesterday that was large and looked like some kind of mini-bear.
Yep, I'm pretty sure that if work had been closer to home, there would be a dog in the house ... many years ago.
@jemostrom Photos can be misleading about size indeed.
The Finnish Lapphund sounds like a really good size. When I decided I wanted to get an own dog, I set my heart and mind to the Wolfspitz/Keeshond who are about 49 cm in height. (Due to several pandemic-related reasons I adopted a Mini American Shepherd pup from a friend in the end… (30–45 cm))
@Stefanyeah Yes, I would say that Keeshond is a tiny bit smaller but about the same size. When I was at the dog show they judged the breeds in "size order" 😋 Keeshond, Finnish Lapphund, Eurasier. For me, a newbie, it was sometimes difficult to say which breed a dog was ... if I didn't look at the size.
@jemostrom They're all in the same tree of breeds from what I saw, so it's not all that surprising to confuse them, even if you weren't a newbie.
As someone with regular contact to a few Border Collies and Aussie/Mini Amis, I sometimes still can't tell those apart. 😅
