Installing elementary OS in VMWare to see if I could live with it. I’ve heard only great things about it.
Well elementary OS is definitely the most enjoyable Linux OS I've used, well thought out, the UI is fantastic and very macOS like, which is a plus for me. I'll be dual booting this on my MBP sometime this week.
@joshsullivan I'll be interested to hear if you end up thinking of it's macOS-like-ness a positive over time. Uncanny valleys and all that. When I tried it (briefly, and a while ago) my first thought was, well, this is kind of like a shitty version of my Mac :).
@joshsullivan I’ll be interested, too! Elementary is one of those flavors of Linux I don’t want to forget is there, in case I ever get a wild hair and want to try something non-macOS.
@jack I can see that comparison too. I think I just need something a bit like I am used to, so that I can get comfortable with Linux.
Which distro are you using?
@twelvety I looked at a few, but landed on Elementary for a couple reasons, one the UI is similar to macOS so easier to grasp, and as I've been watching people submit issues, they've quickly responded with help, or a fix is added to the next release and pushed out the next day which is just crazy to me coming from macOS/Windows.
@joshsullivan Manjaro Gnome right now. It's still only on a hobby laptop but works pretty well. I've been testing a few others (Mint, Elementary, Pop_OS, etc.) in VMs just to get a feel but nothing has jumped out at me yet.
