Turns out it requires special skill to take good photos of a glass paperweight, and I donโ€™t have that skill. Anyway, hereโ€™s the paperweight I made at the workshop the other day. It has blue swirls.

@Miraz Even if it might be more impressive in person, it still looks pretty cool ๐Ÿ˜Š

@Miraz It looks great! Iโ€™m definitely going to check out Hadeland Glassverk, and their DIY offer!

@Miraz Now you've done it. Try a dark background and put a light to your right, 45degrees off the axis of your line of sight. That's a lovely piece of glass and I'd ike to help it be seen better. And tell me to shut up with camera advice whenever you're sick of it.

@Miraz That looks very good, but regardless of photographic technique. Was this the first one that you have made?

@cliffordbeshers No, no, thank you! I'll give that a try later today or tomorrow. I also actually have one of those little 'tents' for taking product shots so may haul that out for better effect.

@crossingthethreshold @odd @cliffordbeshers @jayeless Thanks. It was a fun workshop where the tutors actually did most of the work. It is the first one I've made. At the time I thought it was all a bit rushed but then realised you have to work quickly so the glass stays hot. I don't plan to take any other workshops but have a renewed admiration for folks who create amazing glass works.

@Miraz My dad worked at a research lab that kept a full-time glassblower on staff, to make custom lab equipment. Once my dad took me in to work, and we visited the glassblower, who in about 1 minute made me a beautiful glass cat with delicate glass whiskers.

@Miraz Looks like a huge sculpture a la The Bean in the middle of a field.

@Miraz It almost goes without saying that it didn't last very long, but it was exquisite while it lasted.

@Miraz Lovely. I always thought glassblowing looked like fun.

@pratik Might be because I put the paperweight on a windowsill and took the photo from below. ๐Ÿ˜€

@dwalbert This didn't involve any 'blowing'. It was more a case of glass spinning. ๐Ÿ˜€

@Miraz Looks great to my eyes. But then I am not skilled in photography either :)

@dwalbert Netflix has a series, Blown Away, that takes the fun out of it, substituting competition.

@Miraz I love this picture, especially the way the paperweight looks to be about 30 meters tall

@Miraz really love the angle youโ€™ve chosen for this photo, it enhances the depth of the swirls. My partner works with glass, itโ€™s a fascinating material. Feel like I learn something new about it most weeks

@ekcragg Thanks Emma. I was trying to have light coming through it. What kinds of things does your partner make?

@Miraz sheโ€™s not made anything for a long time, but the last was probably a paperweight similar to yours. She works in a glass and ceramics gallery though and does the buying for their shop
