I’ve created a site for a list of self-identified musicians on micro.blog, who replied to my call a couple of weeks ago. I know it’s far from complete. Instructions to be added or updated are on the site. Basically, just mention me. @manton @macgenie @JohnPhilpin

@jacob awesome @jacob ... I will add a link back from @justgoodmusic - where contributors have already posted music that they are performing .. I will look later and see if we can build a specific connection ...

@jacob I'd like to get on that list! I play guitar, sing, am a songwriter, and do some mixing/producing.

@justindirose I added you. If you want to provide a more detailed bio or a couple of relevant links for others to find your music, you can do this as well.

@justindirose Oh, and on the topic of Mac productivity (discovered in your bio), you might want to check one of the other things I do – namely Trickster app for Mac.

@jacob What a great resource! You can add me, too. Voice, guitar, songwriter. I’ve been playing guitar for about 33 years. During college, I played coffeeshops & open mics, wrote mountains of songs, and made lo-fi bedroom recordings on a cassette 4-track. (Mostly what we used to call “folk rock” but I think the kids are calling it “Americana” now?) I still play often enough to keep my calluses, but have largely confined my performances to the living room couch. (Also, Suzuki violin from age 4 to 13, and choir (bass) in high school & college.)

@jacob Alec Pulianas. Baltimore, MD. Bass Guitar, Vocals, some experience mixing music. Sound Cloud Love all types of music but progressive rock is my favorite genre. Interested in doing online collaborations!

@apulianas Progressive Rock is my favourite as well. We do need to collaborate. I once did a collaboration with @joec where he recorded a bass track for my composition and it was a great experience.

@jacob oh I’d love to hear that. @joec is my friend and a great musician.

@apulianas Here's the dropbox link to the latest bounce. Mind you, it’s very raw, and not finished, unfortunately. My lead guitar part there is totally improvised, recorded even before I sent to Joe, so it might be something completely different in the end (though I do feel attached to some ideas there). Anyways, it is what it is.

@apulianas But here's a link to the latest finished song (I co-wrote it, wrote most of the lyrics and played the guitars, synth and sang). Dark Sun.

@Zak Hi Zak. I've added you. What style of music do you play on the Chapman Stick? Most of the stick players I know are in prog rock, mostly in King Crimson and their offshoots but locally there are a couple and they play different music. How one even start with the stick? It looks quite a formidable instrument. And I always wonder, how does it work so well with just a touch? Are there special pickups or is it totally different from a guitar?

@jacob Enjoyed the tunes. Now Boarding and Disengage on my Sound Cloud are my favorites. Now Boarding I wrote in an airport right before boarding and my old band recorded it. Disengage was created start to finish in a weekend when visiting a friend in New Jersey.

@apulianas These are pretty cool. The atmosphere in Now Boarding is fun. One thing that didn't work for me in it is the guitar solo (I think it's a guitar). It sounded kind of off key sometimes. Disengage has a nice a vibe to it and the change on the 3rd minute is interesting. On this one actually the bass was sticking out too much. A bit in sound but also something didn't seem right rhythmically at times. “Not tight”, as my bass friend would say when he criticizes my bass playing. Hope I'm not too harsh :). I think we will see each other in Mexico for Release Notes this fall.

@jacob We share the same thoughts on the songs. The guitar solo was never quite right in Now Boarding (lots of takes to get it there, to be honest) and the bass part you're talking about didn't age well. I was intentionally trying to make it eventually fall into the groove, but it just ends up sounding sloppy.

@apulianas My latest biggest video project was an interesting one. Not prog at all but so much fun. I covered Axel F on guitars. And it was the first time I played bass parts in a recording since the late 90ies when we recorded my old band’s demo album. I bought a bass guitar after that (the one in the video is rented) so that I could use it in my new projects too. Of course, I'm limited in my bass skills but it's better than nothing when there's no one to ask for help. I'm writing a new song now and it's good to have a bass at hand for the "prototyping”.

"Most of the stick players I know are in prog rock, mostly in King Crimson and their offshoots

given that Tony Levin is one of the most prolific musicians around - I think that probably covers the entire music industry :-)

@JohnPhilpin Haha. Certainly Tony is the first that comes to mind. But there are some more too. Like the bass player with Steven Wilson. And Trey Gunn.

@jacob Nick Beggs is indeed one that I had forgotten about - shame on me, since I have seen him play with Wilson live maybe 4 times!

But then had to look up Trey - need to do some exploring. Thankyou.

@JohnPhilpin Not sure whether this is a thread about famous bass players, or bass players who those on micro.blog have known personally. If the former, one would surely have to include Tony Garnier the bassist for Bob Dylan for 30 years and his musical director for many of them, having played in nearly all the shows in the never-ending tour, as well as in films and videos with Bob. Some say he has been to even more Dylan shows in recent years than Bob Dylan. He is usually the only other person on stage who Bob talks to during his shows.

@Ron from St Paul - isn’t Bob from somewhere near there? Coincidence?

@JohnPhilpin Bob was born in Duluth and grew up in Hibbing. All in MN, but St Paul is far away, 4-6 hrs south of the other two. Tony is more than a decade younger than Bob. I doubt that they knew each other in the early years.

@Ron yeah - wasn’t thinking that they knew each other at school - just thinking about ‘prodigy delivery’ … but birth places are further apart than I thought.

@JohnPhilpin The about Trey Gunn is that he played with King Crimson too. I like his work with Gordian Knot. Not that I know all of his catalog. But I remember this one. In fact, Gordian Knot's studio members list is quite impressive, including John Myung, Steve Hackett and Bill Bruford.
