I don’t want to be in the audience of someone who’s only trying to build an audience
@colinwalker @cn Right! I probably should have said someone who's "only" trying to build an audience.
@jack @cn @colinwalker I’ll admit that I’m trying to build an audience (otherwise I wouldn’t bother with a newsletter) but a very small one will do just fine. I’m not interested in “growth hacking” or anything like that.
@artkavanagh @cn @colinwalker At some level, I suppose everyone who posts things publicly is trying to build an audience. I'm a happy member of yours! But we can tell when someone is focused almost solely on the audience-building aspect and those are the ones I avoid.
@cn I suppose that's part of it. Posting because, "Well, it's Thursday and my calendar says I'm supposed to publish something. Anything." There's often also a sense of despiration, manifested by click-bait titles, obvious SEO ploys, numerous "calls to action", etc. I honestly don't understand why they bother. It's also possible I'm misreading intent and in that case would owe those folks an apology :).
