I have moved from a Hobonichi Techo in 2020 to a Hobonichi Cousin for 2021, and I am not sure what to do with all the extra space. The Techo felt cramped at first, but I grew accustomed to it; I’m sure the same will happen with the new one soon enough.

@petebrown Let us know how it goes. I tried moving to a Cousin a few years ago but realized that most of my Techo pages end up with room to spare so I decided I didn't need the extra room.

@petebrown @jack I tried using an A5 size bullet journal in 2019 and moved to the Techo for 2020. I liked the smaller format. I don't really need a planner, but it works great as a phenology notebook and sleep journal. I also use it for recording random observations to be fleshed out in my daily journal. Keeping it for 2021.

@ddykstal would love to hear more about the phenology notebook. Interesting idea!

@ddykstal @jack What's funny is that, when I ordered both in mid-2020, the Cousin is what I thought I wanted and I only got the Techo for 2020 because that's all that was left at that point. We'll see how it goes, but I feel like the Cousin's monthly, weekly, and daily sections are a bit much.

@petebrown @ddykstal @jack I’m on my second year with the Cousin (after 3 years with a plain Seven Seas notebook). I agree about the many sections. I repurpose some of them as the place where I take notes (I use a Bullet-style index) — it’s not ideal. But the size is perfect.

@petebrown @ddykstal I do cheat a bit because I also use an A5 Leuchtturm notebook as a sort-of bullet journal. The Techo only gets used for planning and other date-based notes, while the Leuchtturm is for longer notes and todos. I've never been capable of getting to One True Notebook.

@jack The One True Notebook is an illusion. I use a Techo and and A5 MD notebook for a daily long form journal, a couple of sketchbooks which I use mostly for doodling. Don't get me started on the apps...

@ddykstal @jack I totally agree about the illusion of the One True Notebook, or the one true system of any kind, for that matter.
