This thread on Twitter, regarding the future of the Editorial app for iOS is bittersweet. Even though the app hasn’t been updated (apart from a few maintenance releases) in an age, it’s still an incredibly solid editor - a testament to how advanced the app was compared to others around ... www.kaa.bz

@kaa Possibly related to why one of the workflows I used has stopped working. Shame, a great editor.

@kaa I'm not at all convinced it ever comes down to "enthusiasm". I think a lot of users feel that way, and it's a shame because it leads to some people feeling entitled and inevitably leaving crappy comments.

For example, even in that thread somebody nags him about Pythonista, to which he replies reasonably well and then they finish with "waiting for an update".

Ugh. Waiting for an update. What a genuinely fucking awful thing to say to a stranger.

@kaa Also (sorry to harp on this but common decency is something worth getting riled up about IMO), the one person who is like "I'll support you if you accept donations!" But can they leave it there? No, of course not. They have to say "Just don't make it a subscription!"

The unearned confidence to say such a thing is noxious.

@simonwoods I hear you about the entitlement, many on the internet easily forget that they are dealing with people. When I wrote enthusiasm I was actually referring to his enthusiasm for Editorial - it’s clearly there and he wants to do right by the app, it’s just he doesn’t have it in him to support both at the moment in the manner that he would like.

@simonwoods Honestly my view on subscriptions is that the app is ultimately geared towards a smaller group of people that find enough value in that specific product. What I would like to see is these single developers grow enough to support at least 2 guys working on the apps. Two is one. One is none.

@hall possibly yeah. Maybe it’s a simple solve, because it doesn’t seem like he’d made a huge amount of changes in the recent update.

@kaa 💯

I'm also not a fan of the number of people who give Apple -- the literal trillion dollar company -- a pass as if they have played no part in how this market, their monopoly, functions.

Sorry I wasn't clear re: enthusiasm. I think a lot of people -- not you! I know full well you're a much more reasonable person than this -- consider software development to be easy or just a hobby or whatever, and then they reduce developers based on that. I think this is terrible, it's dehumanizing, and only gets worse when juiced up by the silos.
