Really happy I received my reMarkable e-ink device today! I’m amazed by everything around that thing and it really feels surreal to write on it. Technically it’s really really good. Now let’s see how and if I will use it daily…

@hutaffe I have always been interested in that device but couldn’t justify it alongside an iPad. I’ll be very interested in your thoughts.

@gpittman @de I‘ll definitely share more along the way. First impression is brilliant! I think it’s a totally different use case to the iPad. My killer-feature so far: I can write into my eBooks like it‘s a real book! This is primarily why I got it.

@hutaffe I’m in the next batch, so should be recieving my ReMarkable by mid December! I look forward to hearing your thoughts and will gladly share my own once I have it.

@hutaffe Very curious to hear more as you use it. I love writing notes in books I read so this would be a great way to do that with ebooks. Might be something I consider for my next e-reader for that reason alone.

@de Unfortunately not. You can only read DRM free eBooks. I escaped the Amazon lock-in last year. You can only read Kindle books with Kindle readers/apps. There are ways to convert them and remove the DRM but for newer Kindles it gets complicated to impossible to remove it.

@philly there are downsides of this device. Some reviews tell them but they are nothing I care about in eReaders. The reMarkable has a great display to read. No backlight might be an issue for some, but it’s far outweighed by the fact that I can finally highlight and make notes IN the book (and export it) or write thoughts into a notebook on the same device. Writing on it feels great. I really love it so far!

@jessekelber I plan to write up my „review“ soon, still taking notes here and there. So far it’s a joy to use. I read more and actually took notes, something I always wanted to do, but never wanted to get a second device or notebook to do it. Curious what you think of it when you get it! BTW the shipping experience is also remarkable (sorry 😉) They do a great job of keeping you updated.

@gpittman not sure where I will land with taking general notes in the iPad and/or on the reMarkable. Writing can’t be compared. The iPad might react a little faster, but it’s still just plastic on glas. The reMarkable really feels great to write on. We‘ll see how the day to day usage will look like.

@hutaffe I’m super intrigued by this device. I’m also super frugal, so I’ll drag my feet on buying one. ☺️

@Cheri I‘m not saying that I will still use this thing in two or three weeks 😅 Wouldn’t be the first gadget 😉 Maybe it‘s just fun at the beginning... I‘ll try to report 😉

@hutaffe i look forward to seeing how you feel after a few more days/weeks. My primary use is going to be reading, notea, and drafting for work. More writing than reading, unless you include editing...so maybe more like 50/50.

@AlanGMarz correct. That’s what I’m looking forward to most, being able to draft an article by hand, offline, then have it appear as a text file I can import to my work G-Suite account to polish.

@AlanGMarz if you have clear handwriting (I don’t) and don’t expect too much formatting, it actually works ok. I have about the same results I get with Notability on the iPad, which is why I won’t be using it much 😉

@AlanGMarz great! Or do I have to be sorry? 😉 I hope it works for you! I bought it because they have a really easy return policy, so there‘s no big risk involved if it‘s not the right tool. I‘m constantly looking at screens too and I can feel the consequences lately...

@AlanGMarz absolutely! I even tried the handwriting recognition again and will try to get my review written on the device and transcribed. Taking notes in the ebooks helps me a lot. Really one of the best gadgets I bought in years. The battery life is hugely overstated though. It needs to run in flight mode whenever possible. So, it‘s limited, but what it does is really good.
