Ok journaling peeps. I want to get into a habit of journaling. Any recommendations on how to start this habit?

@greghiggins one habit that really helped me was to write down three things that happened each day. Just an easy bullet point list that I jot down in the evening. Doesn't sound like much, but it got the momentum going and now I supplement with more content throughout the day

@greghiggins Watch tons of Youtube videos about journaling, then buy a bunch of nice notebooks and expensive fountain pens and never actually write anything with them. Wait, that doesn't sound right :).

@greghiggins I've started keeping a diary, and for me the biggest help is just to build the habit without any standard of what counts as a good entry. If it's just "Sunny today. I did the laundry," I've built the habit a bit more. Once there's some momentum, think about standards for what you want to include, but not before.

@greghiggins figure out the best time for you to journal and then set a reminder. I use the app Due on my iPhone for that purpose. Finally keep it simple

@greghiggins would it help if I said, " you just have to start?” No. Probably not. After more starts and stops than can remember, let alone want to admit to... What helped me was to start small and anchor it to an already engrained habit. Specifically, when I sit down at my desk every morning. I check charge levels on needed devices, ink levels in pens on hand, then open 2 notebooks: gratitude journal, and daily notes. Once they're open and I know I have inked peas, it became easy to just start writing. I've since expanded to a later day session, or 2.

@JMaxB @klandwehr @jessekelber Do you use a notebook? DayOne? Different App? All of the above?

@greghiggins Notebook (paper) here. I keep it by my bedside, make my entry near the end of the day.

@greghiggins For personal journaling, I use a notebook. I get more out of writing longhand and it forces me to slow down and be more present with what I'm writing.

@greghiggins I use a Field Note for my morning journaling and in the evening I try to write in my Theme system journal produced by the Cortex brand.
