When you start using a new social media platform, how do you find people to follow? You stalk users like @rosemaryorchard and @ismh to see who they are following. Of course, then you run the risk of duplicating the other platforms, and I’m not sure that accomplishes anything.

@mcg Hello! I used to live in Charleston and I’m there twice a week at least (well, once a week during the shutdown) because my wife and I are professional singers and the ensemble we sing with is based there. We also sing for an Anglican church there so we’re there for their live-streamed services during the shutdown.

@gpittman I was surprised to see a familiar CHS Twitter person join here. Micro.blog is a relaxed and friendly place. A refreshing change from other social media and a nice blog hosting platform.

@mcg I felt the same way about App.net. I wasn’t on that platform long before it shut down. But I remember having several in depth conversations where not everyone agreed with each other but the conversations were civil, respectful, and really a joy. The days of that happening on Twitter are long gone.

@gpittman I do enjoy the discussions here and the slow deliberate discovery of people and content.
