I enjoyed this recent Q&A with Brandon Sanderson from London. But also, do I actually want the Mistborn movie? As much as I loved the Lord of the Rings movies, part of me wishes I had never seen them. Each viewing erases a bit of how I imagined the world and characters.

This book was fine, and had its moments but overall just didn't grab me. I won't bother with more in the series — Augusta Hawke (Augusta Hawke Mysteries Book 1) by G.M. Malliet. 📚

In Chapter 1, I liked:

The romance novel wouldn’t get off the ground; it may have been a case of my being unable to write what I didn’t know, but my attempt described two people so insipid I couldn’t stand to be in the room with either of them for the year or more it takes to write a book.

The northern striped gecko live on Coromandel Peninsula and are so skilled at camouflage, they weren't discovered until 1997.

Added a new movies feature that people have been asking for. When blogging about a movie or TV show from Micro.blog, it can now include a little movie poster on your blog post. There’s a preference under Movies → Settings on the web. Similar to what we have for books.

Yesterday David Sacks had a long post on X with the administration’s side of the story on the Fable ban:

The Admin did this reluctantly. It’s been very surprised that Anthropic hasn’t wanted to cooperate with a reasonable safety request (ie fixing the jailbreak issue). Anthropic’s reaction is very much at odds with their branding and ethos as a safe AI research community.

He says it’s not because of previous disagreements with the Department of Defense. Maybe, but surely the mistrust between everyone does influence these decisions.

Any typos spotted in this post had an amazing day on Saturday with their wonderful rainbow community on a sunny day as people across their country protested. If typos spotted, they'll be eying off the leftover cake in their fridge, wondering if cake can be breakfast food. (It totally can, right?)

#Spotted at a Gender Bill Protest in Aotearoa New Zealand:

A young human (4?) and Mum are decked out in their best rainbow finery. Sparkly faces beaming as they dance to happy music. Bubbles floating in the air overhead. Passing cars honking their support. Giggles, laughter, joy and love.

A proud trans man (50s?) is giving an emotional, fiery speech, radiating kindness, telling his community that he will hold them, he will support them. That he's been here before and that he'll do it again. The love is palpable. Tears in eyes.
The hands holding his speech shaking with emotion.

A youth leader--the personification of a walking hug--is standing at the side of a stage, hand on their chest, offering love and support as a number of young people speak up for their rights. Expression heartfelt, tears in eyes. The pride is real.

A teen (14) is standing on a stage before a crowd, reading from a notebook filled with dense, curving hand writing. Radiating reluctance to speak publicly but wanting to do it anyway to defend their right to exist. Earnest, honest and brave. This is true heroism.

A teen (13?) in colourful clothes is hugging a plushie shark for moral support while giving approaching friends a shy smile.
They might be a little nervous about this big crowd of laughing and chatting people, but Plushie Support Shark's got their back. It's going to be okay.

I went swimming yesterday for the 1st time this year. I went down the water slide, and I jumped off the high dive. I smelled the chlorine and my suntan lotion and the snack bar popping popcorn and dozed off a bit laying on my towel. And I think it might have all been my favorite part of 2026 so far.

The protest in our city on Saturday was run by our phenomenal QYouth organization, all under 30, a lot of them teens. All just amazing, articulate and wonderful humans.
