@endonend It's amazing how up front about it they are. "We're going to try to win elections by disenfranchising voters."

And not mentioning why African Americans vote so heavily Democratic. The Republican Party explicitly decided to become the party of racism. It's not "chance" that African Americans are the ones getting hit. It's a continuation of America's long history of disenfranchising them.

@Bruce totally agree. I think the Trump era proves that it's 100% “end justifies the means” for them. And quotes like that prove that the Trump era allows them to not even hide it any longer. So messed up and disheartening.

@endonend Well, I think it's been proven since Reagan's campaign speech in Philadelphia, Mississippi. But they certainly aren't hiding it anymore.

On the other hand Lee Atwater was pretty blunt in 1981:

You start out in 1954 by saying, “Nigger, nigger, nigger.” By 1968 you can’t say “nigger”—that hurts you, backfires. So you say stuff like, uh, forced busing, states’ rights, and all that stuff, and you’re getting so abstract. Now, you’re talking about cutting taxes, and all these things you’re talking about are totally economic things and a byproduct of them is, blacks get hurt worse than whites.… “We want to cut this,” is much more abstract than even the busing thing, uh, and a hell of a lot more abstract than “Nigger, nigger.”
