So this sushi place in Ottawa has something called “Deep fried ice cream”. We’re ordering one.

@jacob how'd it go? and how does that even work?!

@tones so they cover a scoop of ice cream in dough or something and then fry it. Probably rather quickly. Hot on the outside, ice cream inside. Pretty good, actually.

@jacob @tones you can do the same thing to Oreos and pickles (although probably not at the same time).

@eli @tones why would I do that to Oreos? They’re already dough and sweet.

@jacob @tones this is a very very very very good question 🇺🇸 🦃

@jacob @eli man’s urge to deep fry already-satisfactory foods cannot be underestimated.

@jacob @eli @tones I thought deep-fried Oreos were the standard, and that ice cream, buckeyes, Nutter Butters, etc., were the less common options. I’m no expert—this is just based on what I’ve seen at state fairs and in Las Vegas. :)

@muncman @eli @tones Excuse my ignorance, regarding deep-fried Oreos, are they also covered in batter or fried as-is?

@jacob yup. That is pretty much how you deep fry anything and everything in my (limited) experience

@tones I think that is actually the correct response regardless of Kiwi-ness. :)

That said, I have had them twice in my life. In that very limited experience, they tasted best at around 4am in Vegas.

@jacob most sushi places dip it in Pablo to fry it

@ronguest the ice cream had a different texture, not like breadcrumbs. It was thin but stretchy, and sweet.

@jacob I remember having that style at a local Mexican restaurant. It was pretty good, had a chocolate drizzle.
