@chriswilson I wasn't familiar with Mastodon's approach for this. I'm going to try to learn more about it. But I think I would still learn towards the wild west Instagram approach I think. I would just be selective about which tags (if any) I "follow”. I would see myself mostly jumping in and out of saved searches to try to cherry-pick people to follow. So, the micro-community doesn't necessarily have a defined border, but over time my follow list would have pockets of my favorite pen people, photographers, etc. to follow and engage with.

@mikehaynes Thanks, appreciate it. It will be interesting to see if the analogy holds as more people join, but I'm optimistic about it.

@douglane I’d love to find more like-minded people here too. I think the reason I can’t leave Instagram is because it’s so easy to find people with similar interests... and... knowing I can be found myself keeps me thoughtful about what I post and the quality of it!

@modernlittleme Yeah, I've kind of fizzled on Instagram, but I still think there's value in it, particularly for creative people.

@macgenie Thanks, I'm glad you liked it. One of the things that's really great about Micro.blog is the level of receptiveness to thoughts and input from users.

@douglane @manton @macgenie what if people’s micro.blog About profile was treated as keywords or had a field for keywords that people could populate and you could search to find people with similar interests?

@davereed @manton @macgenie That could definitely help, though I find that my flow usually works by me discovering someone's content and then jumping from there to their profile to decide whether I want to follow. (As opposed to approaching as 'let me find some new people to follow today’.) They might not be mutually exclusive though.
