@kfitz I have been thinking a lot about your post on sustainability and solidarity. I hope to write something longer when I get the chance, but you are entering the difficult period of figuring out if that solidarity is enough, or if you must turn to the third S, the one that also comes up in sustainability discussions: scarcity. I once sat next to a venture capitalist who berated me for not considering scarcity more — that is, limiting access or services or something and then to charge for it to generate revenue. The tension between, or balance of, solidarity and scarcity is different for each project that strives for openness, and never easy to find. Anyway, let me know if I can be helpful.

@dancohen Thanks, Dan. This is exactly the problem I'm running into, at least in one area of the project: a cluster of folks for whom its value (and thus their willingness to support it) is decreased if it is not perceived as exclusive. I'm reading Elinor Ostrom on community-based paths out of the tragedy of the commons right now, but have a lot to puzzle through. I'll keep you posted as my thinking evolves.

@kfitz I'm not familiar with Ostrom's work on this…I should read that too. Good luck with your noodling.
