So many dormant Mastodon accounts. It rivals Flickr in that way. Sometimes it feels like walking through a ghost town.

@cdevroe Typically see a big influx of accounts when one of the big social networks does something “bad". Folks join, then shortly after head back to the “bad” network. Have to weed out these accounts and find the folks that are active.
@cdevroe I'm seeing this on Glass as well.. Many accounts that are there, but no uploads in months.
@pcora @cdevroe i'm guilty of this, too, though you will be seeing more of me once I get my own Pleroma instance... part of why I have disappeared is because I'm ready to host my own, but no infrastructure capable of it at the moment... or at least I don't think. I know what you're talking about, though.
@pcora Glass seems DOA. I wrote about it and tried not to poo poo it. But I don’t think it is long for the world. We shall see.
@cdevroe I follow folks from a bunch of instances. I find my timeline busy enough that I usually can’t keep up with it.
@cambridgeport90 don’t forget you can syndicate your posts there. Then just check it now and then to engage with that community.
@cdevroe I could... but is there a point if not a whole lot of folks follow me there? I'm not referring to follower counts... more like, does anybody even know i exist?
@cdevroe Writing.exchange is my home instance, but I follow people from many different ones. W.e. seems pretty quiet itself, but I never wanted to be on a busy instance directly. I joined it for the focus on writing.
@pimoore oh yes I follow users on several instances. But I don’t ever go to other instances and poke around. I probably should!
@cambridgeport90 I suppose that is up to you. But they definitely won’t see you if you’re not even there.
@cdevroe I also got some good follows from my recommended list in the official app. My only “beef” with the official version is that it doesn’t include the local instance timeline, but I figure since mine is fairly low traffic it’s not a huge loss.
@cdevroe You post is very good and I agree with your assessment. But yet I am still trying it. I wrote first about Flickr and Glass. Then that Glass was not for me to later eat my hat and start using it: Back to Glass So I'm there. I have this feeling that it won't exist for long. And I still maintain some hope that Flickr would make a come back... Or at least revamp the site faster. And lately I try not to think much about this as it was annoying me. But it's impossible as every now and then someone posts something about it ☺️
@pcora Unfortunately, I don't think Flickr will make a comeback in the sense that it will ever return to its former level of usage. I think the service has to find a different path - and it seems they are doing so with The Commons.
It pains me, because the apps are by far the best for viewing someone's work.
@cdevroe I agree with you. It will not come back as it was. But it has nice features, just need some attention on the website. Specially for mobile.
