There’s a big new micro.blog premium feature coming soon. I’m hopeful, but the track record is poor: Main product: great overall blogging systems, good interoperability among fediverse and cross-posting for other places, has a lot of long-running open issues (quality of life, etc.) that are not addressed ... blog.grotenhuis.info

@toddgrotenhuis Do you mind explaining what the linkblogging or quoting issues are? I get the general sentiment here, which is why we pushed back the release so I could work on core platform improvements last month.

@manton The thread with @cygnoir the other day hits it pretty well.

As an example, for a while, I had no problems using sharesheet to a micro.blog app and getting "new post" started with consistently-correct markdown-style title and URL (maybe even the highlighted text in quotes, too...I'm not sure if I recall that part correctly).

That hasn't worked for a while (I do remember some chatter around it after one of the major releases). Now I have to go to an intermediary app and back to Micro.blog (like some do with Drafts), or do 2-3 copy and pastes to get a simple share-with-note post started.

@manton good point about the platform improvements, and I should have acknowledged that as an investment.

@toddgrotenhuis I failed to mention (and I'm not sure if it's core or premium): the "outbound link archival" feature is a super cool benefit I would consider premium. It helps keep your blog safe from linkrot and more futureproof.

@toddgrotenhuis also not listed in the plans, but the "we will host your blog forever if you've ever paid for it" is also one of the most valuable features (like outbound-link-archiving) that's not listed as an actual plan feature, but is even by itself a great reason to use micro.blog

@manton I gotta be honest and say it makes me so uneasy that you don't know. I originally wrote a lengthy reply and it just felt like an unhelpful pile-on. What I would love is a Github Issues or Trello or something the Mb team points to and says "here are all the known issues with LInkblogging (or whatever feature) we haven't gotten to yet. If yours isn't on there, add it!"

@camacho I get it, but I don't think a list helps as much as it seems like it would. It's never going to be complete because most people won't add to it, and it will contain many things that we may never get to, confusing people who aren't sure if they should report something again.

@manton @camacho for what it’s worth, I would be happy to track quality of life issues somewhere.

Also, I would expect if there are NNW compatibility issues that Brent would be willing to partner (aren’t Brent and NNW users, even, in addition to being advocates of simplicity and open web?).

Finally, I don’t feel good about this post. I’m chalking it up to COVID brain and also wearing my Product Manager hat a lot lately. I’m planning to delete it before Saturday.

@toddgrotenhuis @camacho Thanks. For what it's worth, I don't see any need to delete it. I'm going to test more with NetNewsWire too… It's my default news reader, but I never think to share from it.
